Surprise!

15, Dec 2007

When we moved to Seoul from the country town of Paju in August, I put an ad online for other musicians in Seoul. I found some great guys, and we made Mosaic. We had a lot of fun playing together, and I loved singing again. I actually quit my job to pursue a hotel contract [...]

Korean Drumming

6, Jul 2007

Free concert or movie? That’s what we were trying to decide. We made the right choice. Last night, Adam and I went to the north of Seoul for an incredible concert of traditional Korean drumming. It was outdoors on the grounds of the Hwa Gye Sa temple at the base of a mountain. An awesome [...]

I just found out by a friendly comment on my NPR at EV blog post that the National Public Radio/Marketplace story about English Village aired today in the States. And, some of my interview made the cut! If you’re in America, I might be talking to you through your radio this week! Tune in to [...]

NPR at EV

I was teaching Art with a Korean co-teacher named Hye Yoon. Adam and I have had the creative bug lately. Adam has picked up his paints and pencils again. He has done a bunch of sketches, and today he did some watercolors. He’s also doing a little acting. It’s fun for him. Adam’s is also continuing to do a lot of artistic photography, and he’s thinking [...]

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=4914792137795201625 This is my first film attempt! Adam and I spent Monday and Tuesday (my “weekend”) in Seoul and documented our wanderings. It’s got great music including Bob Dylan, Sufjan Stevens, Billie Holiday, Jack Johnson and others. Enjoy it! -Jessica

Great Second Art Class

15, Nov 2006

I taught my second class in Myeong-Dong last night. It went very well and was lots of fun. The lesson was titled, “Connecting Eyes and Hands,” and I took them through a bunch of fast figure-drawing exercises Rosie Paschall taught us years ago in Art I at MBA. I had them do thirty 10-second sketches, [...]

Art is in the air

8, Nov 2006

I haven’t mentioned it all here on the blog, but many of you probably know that I’ve been taking classes this fall through DePaul University’s School for New Learning. I took a ‘sabbatical’ from college at 19 to get some life experience and think about what direction I wanted to go with my education. Eight [...]
